- Navit
Price: FREE
What: Offline map with navigation.
Note: It's a little tricky to use but once you learn how it works, you have no problem using its navigation function. Your tablet must have GPS to use the navigation of course.
Tips:
1) After installing Navit, you need to download maps for the City, state or the whole country of your interest. To save memory space, I just download state/City maps. Go to http://maps.navit-project.org/ and download the map. Save it as "navitmap.bin" on /sdcard/navit folder on your tablet. Run Navit, select "Settings", then "Maps" then 'check' (tab on) the line binfile:/sdcard/navit/navitmap.bin . Also 'check' "Navigation".
2) Before going on a trip, you have to find your destinations ahead of time with help from Google Map. Use Google Map to look up your destination. The reason is Navit can't (or I just don't know how) to look up address or places. Google Map does a very good job on this. Now use Navit map to browse to your destination. Once you have located your destination, add it to bookmarks so that you can easily bring it up during the trip. To do that,
- tab the destination location on the map
- tab the 'globe'
- tab "Add as bookmark" and give the bookmark a meaningful name.
3) To use navigation for the destination that you have saved as bookmark,
- tab on the map
- tab on "Actions"
- tap on "Bookmarks"
- tab your destination
- tab "Set as destination"
Give it a little time to calculate your route. Once you see the route is highlighted in green, you can start driving. Good luck. - GasBuddy
